Communication

March 18, 2012
The task of communication is very complicated:
A Colonel in the Marine Corps called in his Executive officer and said, “Tomorrow evening at approximately 2000 hours, Halley’s Comet will be visible in this area, an event which occurs only once every 75 years.Have the men fall out in the battalion area in fatigues and I will explain this rare phenomenon to them.In case of rain we will not be able to see anything, so bring the men in the theater and I will show them the film of it.”

(That’s pretty clear is it not?)

The Executive officer calls the Company Commander in and hands him this written order: By the order of the Colonel, tomorrow at 2000 hours, Halley’s Comet will appear above the battalion area.If it rains fall the men out in fatigues and march to the theater where the rare phenomenon will take place, something which occurs once every 75 years.

The Company Commander calls in the Lieutenant and says, “By the order of the Colonel in fatigues at 2000 hours tomorrow evening the phenomenal  Halley’s Comet will appear in the theater. In case of rain in the battalion area, the Colonel will give another order, something which appears once in 75 years.

The Lieutenant got the Sergeant in and said, “Tomorrow at 2000 hours the Colonel in fatigues will appear in the theater with Halley’s Comet, something which happens every 75 years. If it rains the Colonel will order the Comet in the battalion area.

(Now it’s down to the grass roots where the Sergeant is eye ball to eye ball with the squad)

When it rains tomorrow at 2000 hours the phenomenal 75 year General Halley accompanied by the Colonel will drive his Comet through the battalion area in fatigues.

(Communication is a very complicated action.)

Twinkle,Twinkle Little Star.Philippians.2:12-18.(v.15)

September 26, 2011

Philippians.2:15b.Among whom you shine as lights in the world.

A wealthy man was asked, what is the greatest experience of your life? He had a lear jet airplane that he could fly anywhere in the world. He had many experiences as one of the wealthiest men in the world would have. But he said, the most exciting experience I have is sitting with my wife, holding her hand on the front porch of our house at night and watching the show.He meant of course, that there is a great delight in watching what God puts on in the spectacular universe.David declared in Psalm.8:3-4,When I consider the heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast put in place;what is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?

The King of the universe as we look into the sky each evening is the sun because the sun speaks of power, greatness and might. But the sun to us is only great and powerful because the sun is so close to us.Many of the stars many times larger than the sun are only smaller because they are so great distances from the earth. The sun is not all that far away from the earth. They tell us it is about ninety three million miles from the earth to the sun.

There are some stars in God’s universe that are so large that they could not pass between the distance of the sun and the earth. They are more than 93 million miles in diameter or across.

When God put this show together,he put it on a great stage and it is a magnificant show. If you could catch a ride on a ray of light that travels 186,000 miles per second, you could travel from the earth to the moon in a second and a half. Now, you would be dizzy when you got there, but nevertheless it would be a fast ride. But if you were riding that same ray of light at the same rate of speed it would take you four hours to get to Mars…because Mars is that much further out in God’s great universe.

There are some stars so far away that travelling at that same rate of speed…if you were to travel 150 years you would still not be there.God is some kind of God isn’t he?No wonder the wealthy man said,  “The most exciting experience that I  have is sitting on the front porch with my wife, holding her hand and looking at the mighty show.”

With our imagination working, I want us too see the stars.(v.15) Paul said, you are like stars. You shine in this universe like the stars of the heavens.

People are like the stars of the heavens. Some shine brightly, some shine dimly. Some twinkle and flicker for a little bit and then they go out. Some are exciting for awhile and then like a shooting star they fall out of the sky.

People are like stars (v.15). You are like the lumanaries of the firmament.God has put you in this darkened world to shine as stars. When God puts us in the world to bear a witness, He doesn’t want us to be Super Stars. He just wants us to be stars; He just wants us to do our thing; just to perform as he has created us and recreated us by regeneration.

Letters of James Henley Thornwell.

July 18, 2011

From Mr. Robbins:

my Dear James: I have just received your letter, conveyning the afflictive intelligence of the loss of your dear babe.We are both much afflictited by this unexpecred calamity, and desire to join our sympathies in the sorrow of the parents. We can do so most deeply and affectionately. We know what it is to watch the gradual unfolding of the physical and intellectual faculities of a dear child,a first child; and in the full flood—-tide of our enjoyment,to have the dear object of our love snatched from our presence and our care. Such a loss is heart-rending indeed; and the mourner is disposed to attach little value to other blessings of life, for a season, since the greatest has been withdrawn. But a short time and a little reflection will dispel the blackness of the cloud, and show us a clear and serene sky beyond it.We do know,James that our Heavenly Parent, whose love to us surpasses that of a woman to the child of her bosom, is the immediate author of these bereavements. We do know that he never afflicts willingly, or grieves the children of men; always for some cause–great, good, adequate cause. What this cause is, it is our privilege and our duty to inquire.Sometimes it is wisely witheld from our search; but frequently; very frequently, it is within the reach of our reflection. It may be in mercy to the child, to rescue it from a more dreadful calamity which would have attended it in life; It may be in mercy to the parents to spare the more acute suffering at beholding an unworthy life, or an unworthy connection in life. Those were some of my own reflections when called on to mourn,as you now do; but, my dear James, I beleive most men can find—I think I found——-some unfaithfulness in myself, for which the visitation befell me; and with the blessing of God, I have endeavoured to reform it. Should this be your case, I pray most devoutly that He, whose grace is sufficient for us, may enable you to discover and cast it out. Rest assured of the sincere personal and Christian sympathy of yours.

Christianity has always been a religion that is centered in Christ.Hank Hanegraaff in his book. “Christianity in Crisis” writes, “Influential teachers are utilizing the power of the airwaves as well as scores of books, tapes, and magazines to distort the biblical concept of the Creator and promote antibiblical doctrines that boggle the mind. The result is nothing less than a systematic subversion of the historic Christian faith.

Many who are members of our Southern Baptist churches listen, read, and watch these false prophets on television on a regular basis,[especially shut-ins}.Unfortunately it is quite possible that you will find some books written by these authors in Baptist libraries. I question why the Southern Baptist Convention is not doing more to expose and combat the so called “Positve Confession” or the “Word faith movement.” It would be a profitable study for the Mid-winter {Jan.Bible study} to Biblically confront these damndable, false doctrines. Is it possible that the SBC and local baptist pastors avoid exposing these errors because they are afraid of offending those in our churches who are devoted followers of this movement?”Consider some of the teachings and quotes of those in the “Word Faith “movement. These are documented in the book, “Christianity in Crisis.”

“Satan conquered Jesus on the cross.” Kenneth Copeland.

“You’re not looking at Morris Cerullo—–you’re looking at God. You’re looking at Jesus” Morris Cerullo.

“Never, ever, go to the Lord and say, ‘if it be Thy will…’ Don’t allow such faith destroying words to be spoken from your mouth.” Benny Hinn.

“God has to be given permission to work in this earth realm on behalf of man…Yes! You are in control! So, if man has control, who no longer has it? God.” Frederick Price.

“Some think that God made the earth out of nothing, but He didn’t. He made it out of something. The substance God used was…faith. He used His words as a carrier of that faith.” Charles Capps.

“When you get to the place where you take the Word of God and build an image on the inside of you not having crippled legs and not having blind eyes, but when you close your eyes you just see yourself just leap out of that wheelchair, it will picture that in the Holy of Holies you will come out of there. You will come out.” Kenneth Copeland.

On Mark.11:22, where we read, “Have faith in God,” Kenneth Copeland,in an attempt to prove his heresy that God has faith proclaims in his reference edition of the Bible,”Have faith in God,” or….”Have the faith of God.” Copeland, somehow goes from ‘have faith in God’ to ‘God has faith.’

Charles Capps,a disciple of Copeland in his booklet titled God’s creative power, he says of Mark.11:22.”A more literal translation of  {Mark.11:22} is ‘Have the God kind of faith, or faith of God…God is a faith God.

Benny Hinn claims that Job’s troubles came on him because he spoke words of fear and made accusations against God. Hinn describes Job as “carnal,” as “bad,” and asserts that Job’s “mouth was his biggest problem. In essence, Hinn says that Job tapped into the negative side of the force through his voluminious negative confessions.

Kenneth Hagin asserts, “Man…was created on terms of equality with God, and he could stand in God’s presence without any consciousness of inferiority…God has made us as much like Himself as possible…He made us the same class of being that He is Himself…Man lived in the realm of God. He lived on terms equal with God. {T}he believer is called Christ…That’s what we are; we’re Christ.”

Kenneth Copeland declares that “God’s reason for creating Adam was his desire to reproduce Himself…He was not a little like God.He was not almost like God. He was not subordinate to God even.”

Gloria Copeland (third wife of Ken Copeland) in her book “God’s will is Prosperity” comments on Mark.10:30. Here she springs the “hundredfold” on her constituents.Expanding on the promise of Jesus to provide a “hundredfold” return to those who leave everything behind for the kingdom, Gloria writes, “Give $10 and receive $1,000; give $1,000 and receive $100,000. I know that you can multiply, but I want you to see in black and white how tremendous the hundredfold return is.” Gloria explains further: Give one house and one hundred houses or one house worth one hundred times as much. Give one airplane and receive one hundred times the value of the airplane. Give one car and the return would furnish you a life time of cars. In short, Mark.10:30 is a very good deal.

Worry! Worry! Worry!

April 17, 2011

Romans.8:35-39.

In Romans 8 Paul declares that he will not fear what is happening today and what may happen tomorrow. He will not be a prisoner to his fears. Many people are immobolized today by what might happen or by what could happen. Some of our fears are utterly ridiculous and yet they have an immobolizing effect upon us.

Barry Segal, who was a writer for the L.A.Times years ago points out that while we are worrying about things like a nuclear exchange between the super powers and the effects of pesticides that may poision us…while we are worrying about these things there are catastrophes  just lurking beneath the surface that we’re not even thinking about.

He lists some of them:

For example: If everyone keeps saving their National geographic magazines in garages and attics instead of throwing them away, the sheer weight of the cumulation of these magazines is going to sink the North American continent a hundred feet below water.

He further points out that if visitors to the beach keep returning home with as much sand clinging to their shoes as they have in the past…that in ten years eighty per-cent of the coast line will disappear.

And the most helpful part of his writings concerns the danger of pickles, the common ordinary pickles that we eat.

He says for instance that 96% of all communist sympathizers eat pickles.

Ninety nine per-cent of all automobile accidents involve people who have eaten pickles.

He also says that documented data reveals that all those persons born in 1839 who ate pickles are now dead.

And all this pickle research has been confirmed by feeding rats twenty five pounds of pickles for 30 days and all of them ended up with bulging stomachs and loss of appetite.

On the basis of very little information we can imagine all kinds of dangers and trends…Real or imagined.

We need the comfort of Romans.8:35-39.

1.God is on our side.

2.Our commitment in life is to Christ…not circumstances.

3.Nothing can seperate us from His love.

Now, go eat some pickles!
