Temporary Believers…A “False Assurance.”

I have been asked many times by christians this question:”Can a believer lose his salvation?”There are several verses in the Bible that assure us that our salvation is secure.I.Peter.1:5 is an example.Peter writes that we are “kept”by the power of God.Jude assures us the God is able to “keep”us from falling.Jude.24.

However,I am concerned that today many “believers” have been given a false assurance because of a shallow gospel presentation. The Bible declares in Matt,Luke and Mark that there are “Temporary believers.”

Matt.13:21 says,”Yet hath he not root in himself, but “dureth(endureth) for awhile”;for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word,by and by he is offended.”Mark.4:17..”And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time;afterward, when afflication or persecution ariseth for the word’s sake, immediately they are offended.Luke.8:13…:”They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy;and these have no root, which “for awhile believe”,and in time of temptation fall away.”

These verses clearly teach that not all who profess to savingly believe are really born again.Petere says in 2.Peter.2:20-22,”For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with then than the beginning. For it would have been better not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it,to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them .But is happened unto them according to the true proverb, the dog is turned to his own vomit again;and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.”(Believers,in the Bible are called…sheep…never dogs or pigs). Was such a person ever really saved? No! 1John.2:19 is clear,”They went out from us,but they were not of us,they no doubt have continued with us:but they went out, that they might be manifest that they were not all of us.”Sucha a person was never saved because he had no root.Matt.13:21a,”Yet hath he not root in himself.”There was never any moisture.Luke.8:6,”And some fell upon a rock;and as soon as it was sprung up,it witheres away, because it lacked moisture.”

Many times the stoney ground hearer is given a false doctrine of security. While he has some signs of life he is told that he is saved no matter what he does.He goes to hell thinking he is saved. Many times to accommodate him and find a place in the church for him, false teaching on the christian life is created and propogated. They are taught that they can know Christ as Saviour but not as Lord. They are told that they are just carnal christians…when in reality they are lost stoney ground hearers.

In John 10: we are told how to identify sheep or true believers. In John.10:27,”my sheep hear my voice and I know them, and they follow me.True believers hear the voice of the Shepherd and obey the voice of the Shepherd.
