Five Marks of a Lukewarm Church.Rev.3:16-17.Church Today??

Rev.3:1-17.So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot,I will spew thee out of my mouth.Because thou sayest,I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing;and knowest not that….

1.Thou art Wretched:A comprehensive word that sets forth the bodily defects and personal unsoundness and loathsomeness of one in respect of grevious diseases, and such like.(James Durham). This is to be applied to their spiritual condition, which to these respects is no less wretched, disjointed, and loathsome than the bodily condition of any can be.

2.Thou art Miserable,Pitiable.Whos is more to be pitied than an individual who imagines that he is a fine Christian, whereas in reality the Christ himself is utterly disgusted with him?

3.Poor,a cringing beggar.ONE who thinks that he has many good works and much grace;but it is quite the contrary;really you have nothing.

4.Blind.Though Miserable, pitiable, and are senseless and ignorant thereof and you neither know the danger, nor how to rid yourself out of the same.

5.Naked.That is,without anything to hide or cover this misererableness and filthiness before the justice of God.It is not desperate when folks are poor and misearble in themselves ,if they have on Christ’s righteousness to cover the same:but the Lord says to this church, you are in yourself miserable, and also without this cover,so that you are lying as cast forth in the open fields, and obnoxious to the justice of God.

This holds forth a very sad and a very dangerous condition.

  1. Greg Says:

When I read of the luke warm church I also think of the references to I Cor 4:1-12. Strength in weakness. If we claim to be clothed and wealthy we have no place with Christ. What % of churches are luke warm or less.
    In Christ Alone,
